Cupid's Maple-Bacon Cheese Biscuits

Wow your Valentine with this romantic twist on classic flaky biscuit. Our Cupid's Maple-Bacon Cheese Biscuits will be the perfect side dish accent with your candlelit dinner for two. These heart-shaped biscuits are just the right amount of warm and flaky. Your sweetheart will fall head-over-heels, not only for you, but for the food too!

What you will need:

2 cups self-rising flour, plus more for rolling out

1-1/4 cups shredded Yancey’s Fancy Maple Bacon Cheddar Cheese, divided

2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

2/3 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon butter

2 tablespoons maple syrup

What to do:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Coat a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 1 cup cheese, the sugar, baking powder and salt; mix well. Using a fork or pastry cutter, cut shortening into flour mixture until crumbly. Add buttermilk and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Sprinkle flour on a work surface; knead dough 4 to 5 times or until smooth. With a rolling pin, roll out dough to 3/4-inch thickness. Using a 2-inch heart-shaped biscuits or cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes and place on the baking sheet. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of shredded cheese over the biscuits.
  4. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden. Meanwhile, in a microwave-safe bowl, combine butter and syrup and microwave about 30 seconds or until butter is melted. With a pastry brush, slather mixture over the biscuits and serve.
